How to print barcode & price labels directly from Shopify purchase orders
After receiving stock, you may need to print price tags and barcode labels before putting it on sale. Printing from PO lines avoids entering the same product list again.
Selecting products and label quantities separately can add manual work. Here is how to optimize your label printing workflow, and how printing labels from purchase order lines avoids entering the same item list twice. Actual time saved depends on your workflow.
See Shopify’s Retail Barcode Labels documentation for supported workflows and printing requirements.
Shopify’s Retail Barcode Labels workflow
Shopify provides a free app called the Retail Barcode Labels. While it works for printing individual labels or small batches, it has a major workflow limitation:
It does not integrate with your purchase orders or inventory receiving lists.
If you receive a shipment of 50 different items across 3 purchase orders, you have to:
- Open the Retail Barcode Labels app.
- Search for each product variant manually.
- Manually type the quantity received for each one.
- Repeat this 50 times before hitting print.
This manual data entry is slow, repetitive, and introduces high risk of typos (like printing 100 labels instead of 10).
The solution: printing directly from the PO
Printing from purchase order lines can reduce repeated entry of product and quantity data. Since the purchase order already contains the exact SKU list, barcode values, and quantities received, you should be able to trigger a print job in one click.
By integrating label printing directly into your PO app:
- No double entry: The print quantity is pre-populated from the actual received shipment data.
- Accuracy: The barcodes match the exact variants received, preventing labeling errors.
- Speed: A single button generates the print layout for the entire PO batch.
How label printing works in Reorda
Product label printing is built directly into the purchase order page.
When you open a PO:
- A "Print labels" button takes you to a quantity screen, one row per line item.
- Quantities default to what was received (or what was ordered, if nothing has arrived yet), no re-typing.
- Hitting "Generate PDF" produces a print-ready sheet sized for standard Avery 5160 labels (3 columns x 10 rows, US Letter), or a supported Dymo roll layout. Choose the matching format and test one label before printing a batch.

Frequently asked questions
Can I print labels directly from Shopify POS?
No, Shopify POS does not support printing product price or barcode labels directly from the app interface. You must use a desktop browser to print labels or use a dedicated Shopify Admin app.
What should I check before printing barcode labels?
Check Shopify's supported printer models, the label size and the print scaling for the tool you use. Reorda generates PDFs; printer and device compatibility require a test with your own setup.
Why is Shopify's Retail Barcode Labels app slow for POs?
Shopify's default app requires you to manually search and select products one by one, or create manual print lists. It does not pull quantities and item lists directly from a received purchase order, leading to repetitive manual entry.
